Cougars Student-Athlete Spotlight: Saige Cochran

Saige Cochran was a dynamic sophomore on the FCC Cougars volleyball team. Hailing from Governor Thomas Johnson High School, Cochran has showcased her versatility as a Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter, leaving an indelible mark on the court. Throughout the 2023 season, she demonstrated her unwavering commitment, playing in all 14 matches and participating in every set for the Cougars. She was selected to the NJCAA Region 20 Volleyball DII All-Region Team.

Cochran's statistics speak volumes about her impact on the team. Over the course of 51 sets, she racked up an impressive 126 kills, averaging 2.47 kills per set. While facing the competition head-on, she encountered 55 errors out of 360 total attacks, maintaining a hitting percentage of 0.197. Her most dominant game came against Lackawanna College on September 30 on the road, where she recorded 15 kills on 18.5 points and six digs in the team's 3-2 victory. 

Cochran contributed to the team's success in various facets of the game, recording 15 assists, 32 service aces, 47 digs, and an impressive 17 blocks (6 solo, 11 assists). Her defensive skills were further highlighted by a stellar reception game, with only six reception errors. Cochran amassed a remarkable 169.5 points, averaging 3.3 points per set. Unsurprisingly, she started in all 14 matches, solidifying her integral role in the Cougar lineup. Cochran's dedication and standout performances have undoubtedly made her a standout player to watch on the FCC volleyball team.
