The Frederick Community College baseball team returned to the diamond on Sunday afternoon against Mercyhurst North East in a doubleheader. The Cougars entered this weekend ranked No. 15 in the NJCAA Division II National Poll. FCC won game one over the Saints 8-0 behind a strong pitching performance by Brian Rourke. The Saints snapped the Cougars five game win streak beating FCC 5-3 (8 innings) in the nightcap. The Cougars sit at 6-2 overall on the season.
FCC GAME NOTES
- Brian Rourke (5 IP, 1 H, 10 SO) turned in a stellar performance on the mound and improves to 2-0 on the season. He now has 13 punchouts in nine innings pitched.
- Have a day! FCC leadoff hitter Maciah Thomas continues to provide a spark for FCC. Thomas went 4-for-7 (2B, 3B) on Sunday and is batting .455 on the season along with seven runs and five steals.
- Jett Manning went 1-for-4 on the day knocking in three runs. Manning is now batting .478 on the season along with an on base percentage of .536
- "Tape-Measure Blast" - Sophomore outfielder Alex Aristy hit his second homer of the season and leads FCC with 2 bombs. Aristy went 2-for-3 in game two and is leading the Cougars with 11 runs knocked in on the season.
- Freshmen Power! 1B Thomas Gonzalez and Tyler Robinson each hit their first round-tripper of their collegiate career. Robinson went 1-for-1 in game two and added a pair of walks along with the solo shot.
- FCC will be back at home on 3/11 vs. SUNY Adirondack for a three game series.
- Former FCC NJCAA D2 baseball Player of the Year (2015) and current San Diego Padres Chris Mattison draftee was in attendance at Sunday's game. Chris will report to Arizona on March 1st for spring training. Best of luck Chris!
ON DECK
FCC will have a couple of well-deserved days off before they hit the road for their annual spring trip to Florida. The Cougars will be back in action on Feb 23rd for a doubleheader against Webber International JV (Babson Park, Fl.). First pitch is slated for noon!
