Cougars Win in Last At-Bats As FCC Tames the Lions
FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College baseball team welcomed the Lions from CCBC Dundalk on Thursday afternoon for a Region XX D2 match-up. The Cougars defeated the Lions by the count of 3-2. FCC starting pitcher Brian Rourke tossed a complete game and teammate Eric Dressler came up big in the clutch.
FCC wasted little time getting on the board early in the first frame. Jett Manning drew a walk and Alex Aristy was hit by a pitch. That brought hot hitting third baseman Brady Harju to the plate and he did not disappoint. Harju singles scoring both Manning and Aristy to make it 2-0 after the 1st inning. The Lions would tie up the contest in the top of the 3rd and that set the stage for the 7th inning. Thomas Gonzalez turned in a quality at-bat and drew a leadoff walk. Deandre Johnson would pinch run for 'Gonzo' setting the stage for station-to-station baseball. Nick Fuhrmann laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt moving Johnson up 90 feet. FCC catcher Eric Dressler stepped to the plate and delivered a shot to the right center gap plating Johnson for the game-winning run!
FCC starting pitcher Brian Rourke improves to 9-1 on the season and continues to dominate on the hill. Rourke twirled a complete game and struck out eight batters while giving up just three hits. He has tossed seven complete games this season striking out 80 batters in 60 innings.
