Baseball splits home opener

FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College baseball team hit their home field for the first time on Tuesday afternoon against Stevenson University JV. FCC picked up the 10-0 victory, however, dropped the nightcap by the score of 7-4. FCC sits at 6-4 overall on the season. FCC will hit the road on Thursday when they travel to College of Southern Maryland for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 P.M.

FCC pitchers Nick Karlinchak,Max Proctor, and Brodey Neveker earned the shutout in the first game and gave up just one hit while recording six punchouts in five innings of work. Neveker picked up the win on the hill and improves to 1-0 on the season.

The pitching staff had plenty of help from the FCC offense. The Cougars pounded out 12 base hits led by Priamo Lozada and Connor Hanafin. The two of them combined for a total of six hits in six plate appearances. Brett Stallings, Mitch Long, and Jacob Wetzel each chipped in with a pair of singles. Wetzel and Lozada each recorded a pair of RBIs.

The Cougar offense wasn't able to get it going in game two as they tallied just five hits. Mitch Long did double and Jacob Wetzel smoked his fourth triple of the year in the loss. Colin Eberhardt earned the start and gave up three earned runs in 4.1 innings. He was relieved by Ryan Berry who went just 1.2 innings and gave up four earned runs. Berry was tagged with the loss and drops to 0-2 on the year.
