Cougars split with Cardinals in Region XX DII matchup

FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College baseball team hosted CCBC Catonsville on Sunday afternoon for a key Region XX DII matchup. FCC won game one by the score of 8-3 and the Cardinals topped the Cougars in the nightcap by the score of 7-3. FCC is 11-7 (5-1 MD JUCO) overall as the Cardinals are 10-10 (2-2) on the season.

Game One

Brayden Coe (4-0) earned the start on the mound for FCC and picked up his fourth win of the season. Coe pitched seven innings and gave up just one earned run while striking out six batters. In 22.1 innings of work this season his ERA is 2.82 with 22 punchouts.

The FCC offense pounded out ten hits in the win. The big inning for the FCC offense was the bottom of the third where the Cougars plated five runs. Brandon Austin went 2-for-2 in the game while teammate Hayden Kissel had a pair of hits in three trips to the plate.

Game Two

The Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take game two by the score of 7-3. Brad Foster (3-1) took the hill for FCC and was hit with the loss. He pitched four innings and gave up four runs while striking out six batters.

Mitchell Long and Priamo Lozada each had two hits, including a double for the FCC offense. Lozada knocked in two runs. Lozada and Long continue to swing hot bats for the Cougars. Lozada is hitting .492 (team-high) while Long is at .383 with five doubles on the season.

FCC will return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon when they host Scotland School in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 P.M.
