FREDERICK, Md. - A gorgeous day for a doubleheader baseball game as FCC hosted the Lions from CCBC Dundalk on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars took care of business and swept the Lions by the scores of 13-3 (5 innings) and 8-0 (7 innings). With the two wins, FCC improves to 17-10 (9-4 MD JUCO) on the season, more importantly the Cougars sport a 9-1 record in Region XX DII play. CCBC Dundalk drops to 5-16 on the year. A quick turnaround for FCC as they host the Skipjacks from Chesapeake College on Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon. Weather forecast reading 70 degrees for Sunday!
Game One
There were some very hard hit baseballs today in the doubleheader sweep. In the first inning, Mitchell Long, Jacob Wetzel, and Priamo Lozada absolutely tattooed the baseball for three consecutive hits. Jacob Berry followed up with a walk and Kyle Schofield would deliver a 2-run single. FCC would score six runs in the first frame and FCC starting pitcher Brad Foster took it from there. The southpaw picked up his fourth win of the season on the hill.
The Cougar offense kept it rolling in the second inning. Brandon Austin and Connor Hanafin each hit doubles, driving in two runs apiece. FCC would score five times in the second frame and the scoreboard read 11- 0 after two innings of play. The Cougars would cruise to a 13-3 victory over the Lions.
Game Two
FCC starting pitcher AJ Cieslinski was in complete control from the first pitch. He tossed a complete game shutout and improves to 4-1 on the season and has a 2.08 ERA on the year. He has only given up one walk in 30 innings pitched this season. That is impressive! He had plenty of help from his teammates.
FCC jumped on the scoreboard in the second inning as the Cougars would plate two runs. Jacob Berry reached first base on a throwing error. He would score on a Brandon Austin triple. Connor Hanafin came up clutch and delivered a single, scoring Austin.
The FCC offense would explode in the fourth inning. Jacob Wetzel (.425 BA) was locked in all day at the plate. Wetzel absolutely crushed his fourth homer of the season to start the rally. Priamo Lozada (.413 BA) would follow up with a hard single and Jacob Berry would join the hit parade with a double. Brandon Austin (.329 BA) then delivered a frozen rope up the middle that would score Berry. The Cougars would plate four runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. FCC would earn the 8-0 victory over CCBC Dundalk.
