Baseball notches two road wins over Hornets

WINCHESTER, Va. – The (RV) Frederick Community College baseball team hit the road for two games on Thursday afternoon to battle the JV Hornets of Shenandoah University. The Cougars swept the Hornets by the scores of 9-4 and 7-0 for the clean sweep.

Game One

Mitch Long and Priamo Lozada (.402 BA)did major damage for the FCC offense. Long had three hits, including two doubles. Lozada pounded out three hits, while driving in a run. Connor Hanafin (.358 BA) chipped in with a pair of hits, knocking in two runs. The trio combined for eight of the 10 hits produced by the Cougar offense.

Brad Foster picked up the win on the hill. The lefty improves to 5-2 on the season. He tossed 4.1 innings and gave up just two earned runs. Max Proctor came out of the bullpen to record the final eight outs of the game. He gave up two hits and one earned run.

Game Two

The storyline of the second game was the dominating performance by FCC starting pitcher AJ Cieslinski. The righty threw his second back-to-back complete game shutout as he held the Hornet offense to just three hits. He gave up just one walk and fanned six batters. On the season, AJ has pitched 37.1 innings and has only given up two walks. He has a stellar ERA of 1.69. That is getting it done on the mound.

Brett Stallings (.365 BA) and Jacob Wetzel (.410 BA) each had two hits. Stallings singled and left the park for the second time this season. Mitch Long (.341 BA) and Connon Hanafin each drove in two runs. John Harding had the 'batters eye' and had the rare four base on balls game.

FCC will return to the field at home on Friday (4/12/19) afternoon for a doubleheader against Scotland Academy. First pitch will take place at 1:00 P.M.
