Long, Lozada knock cover off baseball in sweep of Scotland Academy

FREDERICK, Md. – The heart of the order came up big for the Frederick Community College baseball team today in a doubleheader sweep over Scotland Academy. What a day at the dish for Mitch Long and Priamo Lozada. The duo went a combined 12-for-14 at the plate and knocked in 12 RBIs as FCC defeated Scotland Academy by the scores of 13-3 (5 innings) and 8-2.

Game One

The FCC offense blew the game open in the bottom of the third. The Cougars scored nine runs and the heart of the order lit up the scoreboard. Priamo Lozada was perfect at the plate with four hits, including a double. He drove in four runs and scored three times in the win. Mitch Long continues to produce in the two-hole with three hits, while knocking in three runs. Connor Hanafin went 2-for-3 at the dish and launched a homer. Hanafin drove in a pair of runs. Hayden Kissel had a pair of hits and registerd two RBIs.

FCC starting pitcher Nick Karlinchak pitched four innings of no-hit baseball. He struck out four batters and improves to 4-1 on the season.

Game Two

Another day at the office for lefty Mitch Long. He didn't skip a beat entering the nightcap of the doubleheader as he was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish. A key hit for Long was a triple to break the game open as he drove in three runs in the victory. Priamo Lozada remains hot at the plate and added two more hits on the season. He drove in three runs and continues to barrel up the baseball. 

Lozada and Long continue to mash the baseball. Lozada is hitting .430 on the year and leads the team with 47 RBIs. Long is batting a cool .378 and leads FCC with 32 walks sporting a .530 on base percentage. 

Brodey Neveker picks up the win and improves to 2-1. He pitched four innings and gave up just two earned runs. The bullpen was solid in the win and did not allow a hit in the final three innings. Max Proctor, Max Cannon, and Jeff Jones each tossed one inning to hold the win for Neveker.

Up Next

FCC (23-11, 11-5 MD JUCO) will return to the diamond on Thursday (4/18) when they travel to Montgomery College to battle the Raptors. The single game contest will start at 3:00 P.M.
