Baseball: Austin & Hanafin lead home run barrage in rout of ACM

CUMBERLAND, MD - Growing up an avid Chicago Cubs fan, I was fortunate to watch a lot of baseball on WGN TV and listen to one of the best broadcasters of all-time, the one and only, Harry Caray. FCC's No. 1 baseball fan Sandy Smith would agree with me! He was famous for his one-liners in the booth. A favorite of his was, "It could be, it might be... It is, A home run!" Harry would've made that call five times today if he was in the booth for the Cougars as they hit five cannon shots in the win over Allegany College of Maryland by the score of 9-5.

The FCC offense came out swinging the bats on a beautiful day for some baseball. Connor Hanafin and Brandon Austin each hit two bombs. Mitch Long hit a long ball over the fence for his fifth dinger of the year. Hanafin and Austin each drove in three runs. BA would finish with a total of three hits on the day at the dish. The Cougar offense pounded out 13 hits as they continue to rip the cover off the baseball. Hayden Kissel joined the hit parade and tallied three hits in the win, including a double.

FCC southpaw Brad Foster (W, 8-2) picked up the win. The crafty lefty pitched six innings and only gave up a pair of hits. He recorded six punchouts in the outing.

FCC will get a couple of days off and return to the diamond on Saturday (5/4) at home to face the Gators of Thomas Nelson CC in a single game. Prior to first pitch, FCC will recognize eight outstanding sophomores for the contributions and dedication to FCC baseball. First pitch is slated for 1:00 P.M.

Baseball stat of the day: FCC is 33-3 in Region XX DII matchup over the last two regular seasons. That is getting it done!
