Bombs Away! FCC smacks season-high four homers in 11-9 win over ACM

FREDERICK, Maryland - The long ball was key on Wednesday afternoon in an 11-9 win over Allegany College Maryland in the home opener for the Cougars. No. 16 FCC set a season-high with four home runs in the victory. Jacob Berry slugged a pair of homers while teammates Brodey Neveker and Connor McCormick also left the yard. With the win, FCC improves to 13-5 overall, including 1-0 in conference play.
FCC starting pitch AJ Cieslinski was roughed up in the home opener. He went just 2.1 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits. The Trojans would put a five-spot on the scoreboard in the first frame. The two teams would battle it out in a slugfest. After six innings, the score was knotted at 8-8.
The big blow of the game came in the bottom of the seventh off the bat of FCC catcher, Jacob Berry. With already one homer in the game, Berry hammered a no-doubter with two teammates on base as the Cougars took an 11-8 advantage. ACM would add one run in the eighth inning, but that is all she wrote as the Cougars charged on to victory. Berry would finish the game, 2-for-4 with five RBIs.
Neveker continues to swing a hot bat for the Cougars. He went 3-for-4 and knocked in three runs. Nicco German (2B) sprayed the baseball around the field and went 2-for-4 in the win.
John Cummings came out of the bullpen and was clutch. He pitched 3.1 innings to pick up his first victory of the season. He gave up just one hit and one run.

FCC will travel to Prince George's Community College for a DH on Saturday, March 14. The first pitch is set for noon.
National Recognition
Tip of the cap to FCC right-handed pitcher Riley Grant. On Wednesday, Grant was named NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week. Last week, he tossed a complete game shutout vs. St. Cloud Technical & Community College, striking out 16 batters, picking up his second win on the hill.
