Cougars Advance To Region 20 D2 Tournament Championship Game

CATONSVILLE, MD. - The No.2 FCC Cougars held off the rain and fog to defeat CCBC Essex by the count of 7-4 on Saturday morning in Region 20 D2 Final Four postseason play. With the win, the Cougars advance to the championship game on Sunday afternoon. FCC sports an overall record of 41-5, and is riding a 17-game winning streak! 
 
The contest was tied 4-4 after five innings of play. In the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Justin Acal and Brodey Neveker had back-to-back singles. FCC third baseman Wyatt Miles stepped up to the dish and delivered an RBI-single, scoring Acal, making the score 5-4.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, FCC's David Antone brought the Cougars cheering section to its feet as he delivered a homer to put the Cougars up 6-4. In the bottom of the eighth, FCC would plate one more insurance run to secure the win.
 
Brodey Neveker had a pair of hits in the win for FCC. They tallied eight hits in the win.
 
John Cummings (8-0) picked up his eighth win of the season as he pitched six innings. He gave up nine hits and four earned runs, fanning three batters. Mr. Utility Brendan Long started the game at first base then came on to record the final nine outs of the game. For Long, it was his first save on the season.
