Win Streak Jumps to 12 Games with Sweep of Shenandoah

The bats were working for the nationally ranked Cougars as Frederick CC came out on top in both games Sunday against the Shenandoah University Hornets JV squad, 14-3 in game 1 and 4-3 in game two.  

Game One

Frederick scored at least one run in each inning, led by a grand slam in the second inning by Josh Wilson, who had five RBIs and scored three runs. Cam Jones went three for three with two doubles and three RBIs. Aidan Masters and Brendan Kleiman each added two RBIs, while Jordan Trunnell (5-0) picked up his fifth win of the season, pitching four innings and giving up one earned run on three hits. 

Game Two

Both pitchers came out throwing heat in the first innings. Each team got a hit but couldn't bring the runners in to score in the first inning. In the second inning, each team had three batters and three outs. The top of the third--three up and three down. The bottom half of the inning looked the same until Cam Jones doubled with two outs. Next batter, first pitch, David Herrera hit a bomb to right center to put the Cougars on the board. The Hornets answer in the next inning with two runs, and the game was tied. The Hornets took the lead with a solo homer run in the fifth inning, but the lead was short-lived. The Cougars put a couple of runners on base, and Aidan Greaney hit a double to clear the bases and give the Cougars a 4-3 lead. Dakota Smith (2-0) picked up his second win of the season, throwing five innings and giving up three earned runs on seven hits and six strikeouts. Luke Nelson came in to throw two innings and picked up his first save of the season with no hits and one strikeout.
