Cougars Streak Extends to 9 Games with 10-8 Win Over Dakota County Tech College

The Cougars emerged victorious in a high-scoring, action-packed game two against Dakota County Tech College, with a final score of 10-8. The game featured 13 hits for the FCC Cougars and five for Dakota County Tech College.

Nick Keane played a pivotal role in the FCC Cougars' win, collecting three hits in four at-bats, including crucial singles in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.

FCC Cougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Christian Cabina's single in the top of the first inning bringing in the first run of the game. They extended their lead further in the second inning when Nick Varda's fielder's choice and Keane's sacrifice fly each brought in a run.

Frederick added another run in the third inning. However, Dakota County Tech College swiftly responded in the bottom of the third, tying the game through a combination of hits by pitch, a walk, and an error. In the next inning, Dakota County Tech College surged ahead, breaking the tie with a sacrifice fly and extending their lead with another sacrifice fly, making it 8-6.

The Cougars fought back, tying the game at eight in the top of the sixth inning with two timely singles before taking the lead in the top of the seventh inning thanks to Josh Erd's single, which brought in two runs.

Matt Koeneke started on the mound for the FCC Cougars, pitching two and two-thirds innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits while striking out six. The relief pitchers for the FCC Cougars, including Keane, Nick Reeves, Adam Horst, Eddy Fuentes, and Truitt Brinsfield, shut down Dakota County Tech College's offense in the later innings.

Offensively, the Cougars recorded 13 hits, with Will Gisriel driving in three runs, while Bryce Curry, Daniel Herrera, and Erd also contributed multiple hits. Keane had three stolen bases, while the team stole five bases. 

The Cougars leave RussMatt Florida Tournament and Davenport, FL, with an overall record of 9-1, rattling off nine wins in a row. The Cougars will face their first Maryland JUCO Athletic Conference opponents on the road at Allegany College of Maryland Trojans on Monday, March 7, for a twin bill that starts at noon. Frederick will open up at home against CCBC Catonsville on Saturday, March 9th; the first pitch is at noon.
