Frederick Cougars Victorious Over Baltimore City Panthers 88-77

The Frederick CC Cougars men's basketball team trounced the Baltimore City Community College Panthers on the road 88-77.

Baltimore City came out of the gate with energy and knocked the Cougars on their heels to start the game. The Panthers got out in front early and had their largest lead four minutes into the game, 19-7. The Cougars regained composure and flipped the script to go on a 14-4 run that was capped off by a made three by Isaiah Horner at 10:57 to pull within one point, 23-22. Horner would give his team their first lead of the game with a layup at 6:48. Horner would come off the bench to provide the Cougars with 10 out of his 15 points on the day in the first half. BCCC would take the lead back, but the Cougars would get a steal and convert a lay-up on the other end to tie the game. The next trip down

Malik Witherspoon would pull down a defensive rebound and give the Cougars a two-point lead with a made lay-up at 3:21 in the first half. Frederick would go into halftime with a five-point lead, 51-46, and come out in the second half with the same momentum and never let the Panthers get any closer for the rest of the game.

Most of the second-half offense ran through Justin Morrisey, who had 18 second-half points to finish with a career-high 36 points to go along with five rebounds, four steals, and two assists on the night. Witherspoon recorded 16 points and 20 rebounds, while Isaiah Horner came off the bench to drop 15 points, with four assists and three rebounds. Richard Burke also came off the bench to score seven points and tally seven assists. The Cougars caused 20 turnovers leading to 16 points on the other end. Cougars outrebounded the Panthers 38-32 and bested them in shooting 48% to 40% from the field and 38% to 34% from beyond the arch.

Up next: The Cougars will host Christendom College Tuesday, February 14, at 7:00 PM at the Athletics Center. A Sophomore Day ceremony honoring our second-year student-athletes on the men's basketball team will occur right before tip-off.
