Cougars' Overtime Battle Ends in 99-92 Loss to Seahawks

In a gripping Region 20 divisional clash, the Frederick Community College Cougars men's basketball team faced a tough defeat against the Cecil College Seahawks, with a final score of 99-92 in overtime.

The initial half of the game belonged to the Cougars, with Justin Morrisey making the game's first buckets. The teams engaged in a back-and-forth exchange for the first five minutes, witnessing six lead changes. The Cougars then surged ahead with a 12-4 run, establishing an 11-point lead at 9:01 in the first half, reaching 32-19. 

Despite FCC's early dominance, Cecil College staged a slight comeback, cutting the deficit to six points by halftime, 42-36. The Cougars preserved their lead in the second half, fueled by Morrisey's impressive 16 points and Malik Witherspoon's relentless performance, never leaving the game and contributing 13 second-half points. 

The tide turned when Cecil leveled the score at 78-78 with 2:19 remaining in regulation. In a pivotal moment, Morrisey's 31-foot shot with six seconds left sent the game to overtime at 84-84. However, FCC couldn't withstand Cecil's attack in overtime, 15-8.

Justin Morrisey dropped 27 points, with seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals, shooting at an impressive 55% from the field. Malik Witherspoon tallied his fifth double-double in six games, finishing with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Jaden Arrington contributed with 12 points and nine assists, while Terrell Neal added 13 points. Richard Burke and Bryson Boyd chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively.

The Cougars' overall record stands at 8-7, with a division two Region 20 record of 3-5. FCC looks to bounce back in their next game on Saturday, January 27, at home against Baltimore City CC at 3 PM in the Athletics Center.
