Frederick Surpassed Garrett in High-Scoring Regional Showdown 107-93

Frederick Community College Cougars men's basketball emerged victorious over the Garrett College Lakers 107-93. The Cougars seized control of the game from the tip, scoring in their first possession, and jumped out to an early 11-3 lead in the first half.

Frederick established their pace of the game thanks to the offensive efficiency led by the standout performances from Terrell Neal and Justin Morrisey, who combined for 27 points.

Malik Witherspoon made his dominant presence felt in the paint, scoring eight first-half points and pulling down six rebounds, while Jaden Arrington hit two deep threes and a floater in the paint to drop 8 points to propel FCC to a 53-36 halftime advantage.

The Lakers made a valiant effort to narrow the gap in the second half, but FCC's offensive proficiency remained relentless. The Cougars' cohesive teamwork and relentless defensive pressure stifled Garrett's attempts at a comeback; from the first points being scored, the score was never tied, and the Cougars never trailed from start to finish.

Frederick shot 53% from the field, besting Garrett's 48% shooting percentage. Despite Garrett's Alex Vargo scoring a game-high 44 points and the Lakers outscoring the Cougars in the second half, it wasn't enough to stop Frederick from dominating the contest.

All eleven cougars that checked into the game made it into the scoring column. The Cougars' leading scoring Morrisey, tied a career-high with an impressive 36-point performance, along with grabbing eight rebounds and maintaining a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line, followed by Neal, who contributed 26 points, six rebounds, and five assists, also perfect from the free-throw line at 8-8. Witherspoon provided solid support with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Arrington contributed 9 points to round out FCC's impactful performances.

Cougars men's basketball improved to 12-11 on the season and 5-6 in regional contests and are in eighth place in Region 20. Frederick will host the College of Southern MD Hawks on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 7:00 PM. The Hawks have an overall record of 17-8 and are 9-2 in Region 20 Divisional contests.
