Cougars Dominate Season Opener Over Monroe College - Bronx 9-1 & 6-1 

Game 1:

The Frederick Community College Cougars' dominant performance in their season opener against the Monroe College - Bronx Express secured a resounding 9-1 victory. Hailey Justice pitched a complete six-inning game, allowing only five hits, with four strikeouts and one earned run. 

Despite Monroe College scoring the game's first run in the second inning, the Cougars swiftly turned the tide in their favor going on the offensive. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Hailey Justice's groundout brought in Emma Livingston, igniting the Cougars' offensive surge. Ryan Mills' advancement to second and Piper Barnes' to third set the stage for Mackenzie Murray's pivotal single, which brought in two crucial runs, propelling the Cougars to a 4-1 lead.

Maintaining their momentum, the Cougars continued to dominate the game. Murray's homer over center field in the 4th inning extended their lead to 5-1, and the next batter, Avery Sickeri, hit a homer, further solidifying their advantage. Livingston's double in the 6th inning brought in two more runs, followed by Alyssa Husband's single, sealing the Cougars' commanding 9-1 victory.

Game 2:

From the outset, the Cougars continued with their offensive momentum from game one, capitalizing on scoring opportunities and setting the tone for the contest despite Monroe College taking an early lead in the 1st inning.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Cougars surged ahead, led by Ryan Mills' single that brought home Emily Ausherman to level the score. Avery Sickeri then delivered a home run, her second of the day, putting the Cougars in the lead. Emma Livingston's double and Kyleigh Hull's double extended the Cougars' lead, giving them a commanding 4-1 advantage.

Alyssa Husband was hit by a pitch that brought in Livingston to score. A passed ball then allowed Kaitlin Murphy to cross the plate, further extending the Cougars' lead.

On the defensive side, pitcher Kaitlin Murphy delivered a standout performance, limiting Monroe College's scoring opportunities, striking out two batters, allowing three hits, and holding them to just one run. 

NEXT UP: Cougars will host a DH against Chesapeake College Skipjacks on Wednesday, March 13, at the softball field. The first pitch is at noon.
