Cougars Dominate Second Quarter to Secure Road Win Over Titans

On Saturday afternoon, the Frederick Cougars women's basketball team displayed resilience and strategic prowess, securing a convincing road victory over the Community College of Beaver County Titans with a final score of 82-65.

Despite a slow start in the first quarter that saw the Cougars trailing by as many as eight points within the first five and a half minutes, the dynamic pair of Makayla Wright and Paige Smith combined for 11 points, narrowing the gap to just two points by the end of the quarter.

The second quarter proved to be a turning point as the Cougars outscored the Titans 34-14 and established a commanding lead of 52-34 going into halftime. Demonstrating a disciplined performance, the Cougars maintained control throughout the remainder of the game, ensuring their lead never dwindled to less than 11 points and ultimately securing a 17-point victory over the Titans.

Freshman standout Paige Smith led the team with an impressive 23 points, shooting 47% from the field and going 4 for 8 from three-point range while also contributing nine rebounds. Another freshman standout, Amelia Robins, made significant contributions with 12 points, showcasing a remarkable 66% field goal percentage, along with six rebounds, five steals, and five assists. Off the bench, Makayla Wiley dropped 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, in the Cougars' 82-65 triumph.

With this win, the Cougars improved their season record to 2-5 and their Region 20 Divisional record to 1-2. The team looks ahead to their next challenge as they travel to face the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks on Wednesday, December 6, at 5 pm.
