Cougars Extend Win Streak to Six with Victory Over Tri-C 64-52

After returning from a road win at Virginia Peninsula CC 75-71 the day before, the Frederick Community College Cougars women's basketball team emerged as the victors over Cuyahoga Community College Triceratops at home with a final score of 64-52. 

The game started off with both teams tied at 12 points each in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Cuyahoga CC Triceratops took a slight lead with 15 points compared to Frederick Community College's 12 points. However, in the third and fourth quarters, Frederick Community College made a comeback, outscoring the Triceratops with 19 and 21 points, respectively, while Tri-C only scored 12 and 13 points in the final two quarters.

Both teams struggled with their shooting accuracy. Cuyahoga shot 33.9% from the field, 20.8% from beyond the arc, and 63.6% from the free-throw line. On the other hand, Frederick Community College had a slightly better shooting percentage, with 34.2% from the field, 23.5% from beyond the arc, and 66.7% from the free-throw line.

Frederick's leading scorer, Paige Smith, was the standout player who led all scorers and recorded her first collegiate double-double, dropping 27 points and 12 rebounds to go with six assists and five steals. She made 11 out of 27 field goal attempts. Jasmine Hardy also had a strong performance off the bench, scoring 16 points by making 7 out of 13 field goal attempts and pulling down eight rebounds. Makayla Wright recorded 12 points and four steals.

Despite a close first half, Frederick Community College's strong third and fourth quarters allowed them to secure the win. The Cougars' defense also played a significant role, as they recorded 17 steals throughout the game.

The Cougars women's basketball team extended their winning streak to six games and improved to 7-5 in the young season. The team is back in action at home against Niagara County CC on Friday, 1/19, at 5 PM at the Athletics Center.
