Cougars Extend Winning Streak to Seven: Triumph Over Allegany Trojans 73-63

On Wednesday, the Frederick Community College Cougars women's basketball team showcased their resilience, securing a hard-fought victory against the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans with a final score of 73-63, extending their win streak to seven games.

In the first half, the game was tightly contested, with the Trojans gaining an early 18-15 lead after the first frame. The Cougars clawed their way back in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 20-12 to take a 35-30 lead into halftime. 

FCC's came out of halftime with their continued dominance, with Jasmine Hardy scoring 11 out of the Cougars' 17 points, while the defense held the Trojans to only 13 points. The final quarter unfolded with both teams fiercely battling, but Paige Smith and Breonah Lawyer combined for 15 points, ensuring the Cougars maintained a ten-point lead.

Paige Smith, the Cougars' leading scorer and currently ranked 4th in the nation in points per game 23.5, led the way offensively with an impressive stat line of 22 points, seven assists, five steals, and five rebounds. Jasmine Hardy made a significant impact on the defensive end with two blocks and achieved a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Breonah Lawyer, coming off the bench, contributed 13 points, shooting an efficient five for eight from the field, while Amelia Robins had a strong performance with 8 points and 3 assists.

With this well-earned win, FCC women's basketball improved their season record to 8-5. The Cougars are set to hit the road on Saturday, 1/31, facing Patrick Henry College with the game scheduled for 5 PM.
