Cougars Fall to Howard 70-46

Frederick Community College Cougars women's basketball team was resilient against the Howard Community College Dragons, one of the top regional opponents in Division II, but they ultimately fell 70-46. The Cougars drop to 9-8 on the season and 3-3 in regional contests and are in seventh place in Region 20.

Paige Smith gave the Cougars the early lead, making the game's first three, but the Dragons' defense would make it challenging for Frederick to find their rhythm. The Cougars struggled shooting in the first quarter but closed the gap in the second quarter to trail 35-23 at halftime.

After the intermission, the Cougars' defense held the Dragons' offense to only 12 third-quarter points while committing only five personal fouls through the first three quarters. Frederick managed to limit Howard's field goal percentage to 40.3% for the contest.

Paige Smith led the offensive charge for Frederick, delivering an impressive 20-point performance that included eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Kayla Dangerfield came off the bench to add 7 points, and Andrea Owusu pulled down 12 rebounds and added 6 points.

The Cougars will next face off against the Montgomery College Raptors at home on Saturday, February 10, at 1:00 PM. The Raptors are currently tied for second (with Howard CC) in the region at 6-1 with an overall record of 15-6.
