Jack Griffin

Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor
Track & Field Coach, 1967-1973

Jack Griffin coached FCC Cross Country and Track and Field teams from 1967 to 1973. During his time at the helm of the Indoor and Outdoor Track team, he coached Charles “Jack” Davis, the first FCC athlete to qualify for the NJCAA National Championship and a member of the FCC Hall of Fame Class of 2016.

He was also the longtime coach for Cross Country and Track and Field at Frederick High School, where he led his teams to 14 state championships.

Griffin also served as a member of the United States Olympic Committee and held 11 international coaching positions for U.S.A. Olympic team members, which took him all over the world.

He is a recipient of the Joseph Robichaux Award and the Doris Heritage Award, given by U.S.A. Track & Field for outstanding contributions to U.S. Women’s Track and Field and U.S. Women’s Cross Country, respectively.

Griffin was inducted into the U.S.A. Deaf Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2004 and was nominated for the U.S. Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Maryland Sports Hall of Fame (Lifetime Achievement Award) in 2006.

“It is an honor and privilege to be inducted into the FCC Hall of Fame. I’m proudest of all the former players who transferred to a four-year college and became productive members of society. I would like to thank the FCC Hall of Fame committee for this honor.” -Jack Griffin
