Theresa Arnett

Theresa Arnett

Women’s Softball and Basketball, 2003-2005

Theresa Arnett excelled as a member of both the women’s softball and basketball teams from 2003 to 2005. Arnett led the Cougars on the basketball court and as a shortstop on the softball diamond. In 2003, she was named the Maryland Tournament Co-MVP.

Coach Mehl remembers Arnett as a dependable and tough player, illustrated by two anecdotes from her playing days. In one, the women’s basketball team had just tied their opponent with 10 seconds left in regulation when Arnett was fouled by an opposing player. She calmly went to the foul line and sank both shots to give FCC the win. When Coach Mehl asked Arnett after the game if she had been nervous while at the line, she responded that having the chance to make game-winning foul shots with almost no time left on the clock had always been a dream of hers, so she knew she would make them. Coach Mehl also recalls a time when Arnett hurt her knee so badly during a game that she had to be carted off the floor and later required surgery. Arnett promised her coach she would be back quickly – a promise she kept when she was back just 10 days after surgery ready to play.

Arnett remains active in the softball community and has won a number of state, national, and world all-tournament team and MVP awards from
2009 to 2016.

“One of the best experiences I have ever had. I owe a lot of who I am today because of Sandy Smith and Coach Jack Mehl. At FCC, I met the most amazing people. Some of my fondest memories originate from the events and times I spent at FCC.” -Theresa Arnett
