Frederick, Md. – "Let's Play Two!" Those are the famous words from the late "Mr. Cub" Ernie Banks! What a gorgeous and historical day for some FCC baseball. The Cougars swept Shenandoah University JV by the scores of 6-0 & 8-1.
Congratulations to FCC starting pitcher Carson Bach for making history today! Bach struck out 13 batters breaking the single season strikeout record of 89. The hard–throwing right-hander gave up just two hits and walked zero. The single season record was previously held by Nate Harmon (89 K's, 2015). Bach is 5-1 on the year and is now 15-1 in his career at Frederick Community College. For the season Bach has pitched 56 innings and recorded 90 punchouts. Congratulations to #35 Carson Bach.
FCC sits at 30-13 overall including 9-7 in MD JUCO conference.
FCC will be back in action on Thursday (4/21) when they host College of Southern Maryland in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
Game 1
The storyline of game one was FCC starting pitcher Carson Bach. He turned in a stellar performance and was straight up dealing on the mound. Bach was pumping gas and struck out 13 batters en route to his fifth victory of the season.
Dalton Haymaker and Dylan Gutierrez (2 2B) each had two hits. Haymaker knocked in a pair of runs.
Game 2
Doug Pearl continue to turn in quality starts on the hill for the Cougars. The Hornets put a run on the board in the top of the 1st and that was it as the southpaw shut them down yielding just three hits to go along with five strikeouts. Pearl tossed six innings to earn the "W" and remains a perfect 4-0.
Jett Manning and Garrett Blank had two hits apiece while teammate Ryan Capstick smoked a triple in the victory. The big blow of the game came off the bat of Zackary Costello. He hit his fourth homer of the season and knocked in four runs on the day.
