Professional Baseball Signings

2020
Name: Jacob Wetzel
Position: Outfield
Draft: Undrafted Free Agent, Chicago Cubs

While at FCC, Wetzel turned in a stellar career. In 2019, he batted .377 and broke the single-season record with 11 triples. He recorded 61 hits and deposited six baseballs over the fence. He was off to a hot start this past spring, hitting .333 before the shortened season ended

2018
Name: Jett Manning
Position: Shortstop
Draft: Round 20 (586 overall), San Francisco Giants

Manning spent two seasons at Frederick Community College. As a freshman, he hit .412 for Cougars. As a sophomore, he hit .430 with 44 RBIs and 64 runs scored to earn All-American honors. Manning was recruited to play for the University of Alabama after his time at FCC. The Crimson Tide’s primary shortstop in 2018, Manning started all 53 games he saw action in during the 2018 season. He ranked fourth on the team in hits with 45 and finished with a .251 average. Manning tied for fourth in multi-hit games with 10 and collected a pair of five-game hitting streaks throughout his lone season at Alabama.

2016
Name: Chris Mattison
Position: First Baseman, Catcher
Draft: Round 16 (474 overall) – San Diego Padres

Frederick Community College sophomore first baseman Chris Mattison has been named baseball's NJCAA DII National Player of the year, the NJCAA announced on June 11, 2015. Mattison is the first student-athlete in school history to earn National Player of the Year honors. During this record-setting year, Mattison finished with a .527 batting average, 108 hits, 12 homers, and 87 RBI.  During the 2015 season, he broke six FCC individual single-season records and registered a 31-game hit streak.

2015
Name: Josh Swirchak 
Position: Second Baseman
Draft: Signed as a nondrafted free agent by St. Louis Cardinals, June 13, 2015

After graduation from FCC, Slugger Swirchak attended Wilmington University and had quite a senior campaign this year batting .383 on the season.  He was named NCAA Division II East Region All-Tournament Team - First Team ABCA, NCBWA, and Daktronics All-East Region - First Team All-CACC - NCBWA East Region Player of the Week (4/14) - CACC Player of the Week (4/13).

2013
Name: Josh McCauley
Position: Right-Handed Pitcher
Draft: Round 21, Chicago Cubs

Drafted in the 21st round of the 2013 draft by the Chicago Cubs...He started his college baseball career at Frederick Community College, where he was 8-4 with a 3.86 ERA in two seasons...Struck out 82 batters in 91 innings...Transferred to West Virginia University for a season in 2011 before going to Shepherd in 2013...Was 2-3 with a 4.50 ERA...Struck out 28 in 26 innings.

2006
Name: Jared Olson – FCC Athletics Hall of Fame (Class of 2019)
Position: Third Baseman
Draft: Round 27 (808 overall) - Texas Rangers

At FCC:

-Earned All-Conference and All-Region Honors in 2006 and 2007
-Named an NJCAA First Team All-American in 2006 and Second Team All-American in 2007
-Named Region XX Tournament MVP in 2007

Name: Dan Leatherman – FCC Athletics Hall of Fame (Class of 2018)
Position: Right-Handed Pitcher
Draft: Free Agent – Minnesota Twins - He compiled a career record of 22 wins and 10 losses in his 176-game pitching career with the Twins, Elizabethton Twins, Beloit Snappers, Hagerstown Suns, Potomac Nationals, Harrisburg Senators and Syracuse Chiefs. He began playing during the 2006 season and last took the field during the 2010 campaign.

2004
Name: Brandon Conway – FCC Athletics Hall of Fame (Class of 2018)
Position: Third Baseman, Shortstop and Second Baseman
Draft: Round 9 (264 overall) – Montreal Expos

Independent Baseball

Rhett Teller (Outfielder) - 2007 and 2008 Played with Evansville Otters – Frontier League – FCC Athletics Hall of Fame (Class of 2018)

Matt Howard (Outfielder) – Howard played professional baseball for three years in the Frontier League, spending two seasons with the Traverse City Beach Bums (Traverse City, Mich.) and one season with the Southern Illinois Miners (Marion, Ill)

Joey Miller (First Baseman) - Played two seasons at Frederick Community College ... batted .368, scored 31 runs, drove in 31 runs and hit six home runs for his career at FCC ... earned all-conference and all-region honors as a sophomore. Went on to play at Concord University… 2013: Started all 54 games played … earned All-WVIAC honors as well as spots on the ABCA, NCBWA and Daktronics All-Atlantic Region teams … ranked second in the nation in RBI (70), fourth in home runs (15), 16th in slugging percentage (.674), 20th in total bases (124), and 39th in runs scored (55) … hit .342 (63-for-184) with 16 doubles and a .432 on-base percentage.
