Frederick Men's Basketball Win Season Opener 105-46 Over PHC; Season Dedicated to George Matthew Mwesigwa
In a season dedicated to George Matthew Mwesigwa, a teammate that left us too young, the Frederick Community College Cougars capped off their season opener with a 105-46 win over Patrick Henry College.
After a short ceremony honoring George Matthew Mwesigwa, the team invited his mother to stand with the players and presented her with flowers and a gift from the coaching staff and players. In a brief statement before the game got underway, Head Coach Darryl Whiten dedicated this season to the memory of George. He has a locker in the team's locker room. He was a passionate, goal-driven, and dedicated young man and the first student-athlete Coach Whiten recruited to play for the Cougars, but he passed away after a car accident on July 16, 2022.
The Cougars scored the game's first points and never trailed throughout the match. FCC's defense held Patrick Henry to only 16 first-half points. Jaden Arrington came off the bench to lead all scorers with 13 points and recorded three steals, two assists, and two rebounds for the Cougars.
Four Cougars finished with double-digit points in their season opener. Justin Morrisey and Isaiah Horner each scored 11 points, while Treshawn Warren recorded 10 points. Malik Witherspoon also contributed 9 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the win. Frederick shot 45.8 percent (49-of-107) from the field and tallied 54 rebounds.
They play next on Saturday, Dec. 3, when they host Anne Arundel Community College at the Athletic Center. Tip-off is set for 2pm.
