Cougars Fall to ACMD Trojans 82-72

Cougars Fall to ACMD Trojans 82-72

The FCC Cougars men's basketball team faced a challenging start to the new year, dropping their first game to the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans, 82-72.

The Cougars began the game with a promising start, securing an early 8-point lead within the first five minutes. Despite a competitive first half, where Justin Morrisey contributed 10 points and Terrell Neal added 8 points along with three steals, the teams entered halftime tied at 31-31, highlighting the closely contested nature of the matchup.

Coming out of halftime, the Cougars embarked on a three-minute 8-2 run, crowned by a field goal from Malik Witherspoon in the paint. Although the lead slipped away briefly, a Witherspoon jumper restored the Cougars' advantage at 41-40 with just over fifteen and a half minutes to play.

However, a challenging four-minute stretch saw the Trojans locking down the Cougars, holding them to only one point and going on a 17-1 run. Despite a resilient effort, including a 6-0 run by the Cougars and a Mike Davis dunk, the deficit could not be closed further, resulting in a 10-point loss.

Justin Morrisey led the scoring with an impressive 22 points and two assists, while Terrell Neal contributed 17 points and five steals. In his season debut, Witherspoon recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and showcased perfection from the free-throw line at six for six. The Cougars outperformed the Trojans on the boards, securing a 35-22 rebounding advantage.

The Cougars men's basketball team will seek redemption as they host Delaware Tech CC on Saturday, 1/13, at 3 PM at the Athletics Center.
