Bio

Mario Gill enters his Second season as Assistant Coach at Frederick Community College under Head Coach Whitten.  Coach Gill brings vast playing and competitive coaching experience with him, which includes High School and Collegiate levels.  As a prep standout in Portland, Oregon Gill garnered honors such as Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) Player of the Year, First Team All-State, First Team All-Conference (2x), Played in prestigious Oregon versus Washington Game – Top 10 players from each state and was named a McDonalds All American Nominee. 

Coach Gill then attended Eastern Arizona College (EAC) where he concentrated on Associates of Arts in General Studies from 2008 to 2010.  After Gill’s first season Gill posted 12.4 PPG, 6 Rbs, 3 assist, 1.5 Assist, 34% 3 points, 47 % Field goal, and striking 83% from the free-throw line.  After posting a consistent stat line Gill was invited to compete at the Jerry Mullins top 100 (Junior College Players Jamboree).  After a successful second campaign with EAC Gill Signed with the University of Alaska – Anchorage where he focused on Criminal Justice.  2010 – 2011 Coach Gill shot the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) best at 46% from the 3-point line while helping his team finish with a record of 24 – 10.  During the NCAA West Regional Championship Gill posted an average of 22.0 points and 8.5 Rebounds over a two-game span earning him NCAA II West Regional Championship All-Tournament Team.  2011 – 2012 Coach Gill received a significant right-hand injury which kept him sidelined throughout the season.

After his playing career Coach Gill has devoted countless hours to volunteering and working with various AAU Basketball organizations focusing on player development. From 2021 to 2022 Coach Gill was an assistant coach with Boy's Basketball team at Sherando High School in Stephen City, Virginia. During this time Coach Gill helped the program finish with a 20–7 record, District Championship, and host the first regional playoff game in school history. Coach Gill looks to continue to learn and coach/compete at a high level.
