FCC Wins Season Opener Against LFCC
With only one returning player, Coach Roby and the FCC staff were cautiously optimistic with the Freshman laden team but the men came through their first test in convincing fashion with a 6-2 victory! The attack was led by Lorenzo Bolanos (Tuscarora) with four assists and one goal and Manny Mejicanos (E. Roosevelt) who netted two goals.
Quincy Tyler (Damascus) opened the scoring in the 20th minute as he receive a nice pass from Bolanos 25 yards away from goal. Tyler outpaced the defender and slotted the goalkeeper in the side panel.
At the 35 minute mark FCC struck again as Bolanos penetrated to the end line and laid a nice cross that the keeper had deflect off his foot. Chandler Cole (South County, VA) was in position to poke the ball in for the teams second goal!
FCC led at half 2-1.
Four minutes into the second half Manny Mejicanos (E. Roosevelt) scored his first goal of the season as he and Bolanos combined nicely with a wall pass that enabled Mejicanos to penetrate 1v1 which turned into an easy finish.
FCC 3-1.
Mejicanos capitalized again in the 30th minute as Center Back Christian Deynes (Spencerville Academy) stripped the LFCC player and played a twenty yard delivery to Mejicanos who again beat a defender for another close in finish for his second goal of the day.
Ross Catron (Patterson) continued the scoring as he found himself on the end of another assist from Lorenzo Bolanos, his fourth of the day, in the 23rd minute. FCC 5-1!
Lorenzo Bolanos (Tuscarora) finished the goal scoring for FCC in the 25th minute on an assist from DJ Beauclair (Brunswick).
The team combined for 19 shots on goal and created 9 corner opportunities!
Although the team conceded 2 goals, defenders Christian Deynes and Preston Windnagle (Linganore) were steady and midfielder/defender Bilal Hassne-Souly (CS Progres) was a dominating presence!
Coach Roby stated that LFCC put in a determined effort but the Cougars skill, speed and ideas were the difference.
The Cougars take the field Saturday at FCC against Patrick Henry College for a 4PM kick-off in search of their second win.
