Men's Soccer Falls to AACC on the Road
The FCC men's soccer team traveled to Arnold, Maryland, for it's first away match of the regular season.
FCC striker Lorenzo Bolanos tallied his 5th goal of the season in the 22nd minute after receiving a long ball which the defender misplayed. Bolanos found the ball and beat the keeper 1v1!
Eight minutes later AACC would equalize when their quick striker by Robert Masters would slide a nice low cross to a streaking Garrett McLendon to finish.
Game is 1-1 at the half.
The game was a back and fourth battle as both midfields tried to figure out how to break down their opposing defenses with AACC capitalizing in the 70th minute. Again, Masters created a nice flick that caught the FCC defense off guard and #18 slotted it passed FCC keeper Jody Brunty who had to come off of the bench for an injured Jacob Clements.
Coach Roby decided to go to a more attacking style and it paid off in the 80th minute as Bolanos scored his 6th goal of the season which Felipe Hernandez set up.
Unfortunately a AACC free kick was awarded two minutes later, approximately 25 yards to Bruntys' right. AACC's Nathan Stagnaro played the ball diagonally behind the FCC back line and Garrett McLendon scored the game winner to conclude the match.
Recovering striker Gustavo Garcia played for the first time this season and showed promise. Bilal Hassane-Souley was very solid until having to leave the game with an injury which surely was a factor in the loss.
This was a good learning experience competing against a solid opponent and hopefully the goalkeeping and back line came away with a better understanding how to defend a good attacking duo.
FCC hosts 1st place Howard at 5:00 PM on Friday 9/11.
