CCBC Essex escapes with 2-1 victory
Recap by Coach Roby
Frederick, Md.- The FCC men's soccer team gave its best overall effort in a 2-1 loss versus 2014 D-1 Regional Champion Essex CC on Friday.
The game was an exciting and emotional contest as Essex tried to imposed it's system on the undaunted Cougar defense during the first half as the "TEAM" defended exceptionally well allowing only 6 shots overall and one on goal! Christian Deynes (Spensorville Adventist Academy) came up huge clearing an Essex shot off of the goal-line!
With 10 minutes remaining in the 1st half FCC's Bilal Hassane-Souley dribbled into the Essex penalty area and was fouled which resulted in a PK. Lorenzo Bolanos (Tuscarora) firmly beat the keeper for the first goal of the game! FCC did earn three corners and countered very well at times causing havoc for the Essex back four.
Unfortunately, in the 38th minute, Essex responded with a goal off of a long throw and tied the match at 1-1. The half ended with the game tied.
Essex came out of the halftime with a determined effort and pressed FCC from the kickoff forcing keeper Jacob Clements (Tuscarora) to make 7 more saves and Deynes headed another certain goal away! Essex was able to create 8 more shots in the second half capitalizing on a free kick early in the half. Essex 2-1!
Both teams battled until the game was called with 20 minutes to play due to darkness.
FCC hosts Montgomery this Tuesday at 3PM.
