Cougars Men’s Soccer Upsets Unbeaten Howard Dragons 3-2

Cougars Men’s Soccer Upsets Unbeaten Howard Dragons 3-2

In a thrilling Region 20 men's soccer contest, Frederick Community College Cougars edged out Howard Community College Dragons with a 3-2 victory, ending the Dragons' six-game win streak.

FCC opened the scoring seven minutes into the game with an unassisted goal from midfielder Alexandro Angulo Moreno, putting the home side up 1-0. The Cougars dominated the possession early on but couldn't extend their lead before halftime, and the score remained 1-0.

The second half saw both teams ramp up their intensity. Howard CC equalized just after the break at 46:29. FCC responded strongly, regaining the lead at 61:02 through Nikolas Gusman, who slotted in a goal off an assist from Marlon Melendez to make it 2-1. FCC extended the lead to 3-1 at 86:28, thanks to William Burnett's strike, assisted by Jimmy Diaz.

Howard CC made a final push, scoring in the final minute (89:58) to bring the Dragons within one goal, but time ran out, and the Cougars held on for a 3-2 victory.

In a closely contested match, Howard Community College outshot Frederick Community College 14-6, with 11 shots on target compared to FCC's five. Despite the shot disparity, FCC capitalized on their chances, scoring three goals on just six shots. Howard's goalkeeper, Luke Ryerson, made two saves, while Frederick's Brendan Kane was a standout with six saves, helping secure the win.

Despite a late comeback attempt from Howard, the FCC's solid defense, led by goalkeeper Brendan Kane, and timely offensive strikes secured the win. With this victory, the Cougars now have a 5-4 record for the season. Next up, the Cougars will play against Carroll CC on the road on Thursday, September 26 at 2:00 PM
