Softball Drops Doubleheader to Skipjacks
FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College softball team hosted conference leader Chesapeake College on Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader matchup. FCC played well, but came up short in both games by the scores of 3-2 and 6-2. With the loss FCC falls to 4-15 (2-8 MD JUCO) on the year. The Skipjacks improve to 18-8 (12-0 MD JUCO) and remain undefeated in MD JUCO play.
GAME ONE
Quite a pitching duel in game one as FCC's starting pitcher McKenzie Haynes turned in a spectacular performance.
The Cougars evened things up at two in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Katlyn Davis sacrifice fly. The Skipjacks would plate the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. This is when things got interesting. FCC would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh with just one out on the board. However, the Skipjacks were able to get out of the jam to secure the victory.
Haynes suffered the tough loss on the mound for the Cougars. She surrendered three runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out one and walking one.
FCC's Katie Shugars went 2-for-3 at the plate. The Cougars had just four hits in the loss and committed five errors on defense.
GAME TWO
The Cougars lost the lead late in a 6-2 defeat in game two. Chesapeake was down 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning when an error scored two runs for the Skipjacks.
FCC starting pitcher Ashley Bentley took the loss on the mound. She went seven innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking one. The Cougars had three miscues in game two that led to the big sixth inning.
Rachel Jarvis went 2-for-3 (3B) in the loss for FCC.
