Softball sweeps Thunder Wolves in home opener

FREDERICK, Md. – Frederick Community College swept a softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon over the Thunder Wolves of Niagara County CC. The Cougars won the opener 8-0 (5-innings) and then took the nightcap, 18-6 (5-innings). FCC improves to 7-9 overall on the year as the Thunder Wolves falls to 6-10.
Game One
FCC starting pitcher Taylor Beckley turned in a dominating performance on the hill. The southpaw tossed a complete game shutout to earn the victory. She went five innings in the win and gave up just two hits, while recording one strikeout.
Beckley had plenty of offensive support from her teammates. Kaitlyn Naill, Katlyn Davis and Keri Stevens (.476 BA) each had two hits. Both Davis and Stevens knocked in a pair of runs. Alexandra Hofflinger recorded two stolen bases in the win.
Game Two
FCC lit up the scoreboard in the second inning by scoring 13 runs and would earn the victory in five innings by the score of 18-6. Katlyn Davis led the offense as she was a perfect 4-for-4 in the win. She tallied four doubles and knocked in five runs. Davis is hitting .462 on the season and leads the team with 24 hits and 19 RBIs. Alexandra Hofflinger had three hits in four plate appearances and registered three RBIs. Kaitlyn Naill chipped in with two hits and two RBIs. Brittany Jolly smashed her first homer of the season and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Jolly is hitting .409 on the season.
Kaitlyn Naill picked up the win on the mound for FCC. She pitched five innings and gave up just one earned run. She tallied six strikeouts, while giving up three walks.

FCC will travel to College of Southern Maryland on 4/3 for a DH vs. the Hawks. First pitch is set for 3:00 P.M.
