Softball Claims Exciting Doubleheader Split
La Plata, Md. – The Frederick Community College softball team traveled to College of Southern Maryland on Wednesday afternoon for a key Region XX DII matchup. The Hawks beat the Cougars in game one by the score of 6-3. FCC would win a high-scoring affair in game two, 10-9. FCC sits at 8-10 overall on the year, including a record of 2-4 in the MD JUCO conference. The Hawks have an overall record of 6-5 (5-3 MD JUCO).
Game One
The FCC defense committed five miscues in the field that led to a 6-3 defeat. FCC starting pitcher Alexandra Hofflinger was hit with the loss as she pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs. Hofflinger recorded six strikeouts and gave up three walks.
Six different players registered a hit for the FCC offense. Taylor Beckley smacked a double while Morgan Lohoefer and Kaitlyn Naill recorded one RBI each.
Game Two
FCC would put runs on the board in six out of seven innings to preserve the one-run victory. Taylor Beckley continues to shine on the mound and the plate. The southpaw went the distance to pick up the win on the hill. She tossed seven innings and gave up six earned runs. She struck out three and gave up just one free pass. Beckley improves to 5-3 on the hill this season. The FCC offense slugged out 11 hits in the victory.
Beckley, Morgan Lohoefer, and Keri Stevens (.444 BA) each had two hits in the win. Stevens, Kaitlyn Naill Brittany Jolly chipped in with two RBIs apiece.
On Deck
FCC will return to the diamond on Saturday (4/6/19) when they travel to Harford Community College for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for noon.
