Cougars Earns First Win in Extra-Inning Thriller
Frederick Community College Cougars softball secured its first victory of the season in dramatic fashion, edging out Monroe Community College 9-8 in extra innings. The Cougars rallied late to clinch the win.
Monroe struck first, plating a run in the opening inning, but Frederick responded immediately as Hailey Zimmerman scored on an error. The game saw Monroe build a 6-2 lead by the sixth inning, but FCC erupted for four runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from Joelle Staub to even the score. The game remained deadlocked into the eighth, when Staub once again delivered in the clutch, driving in Zimmerman and Leo Cline to walk it off for the Cougars.
Frederick's offense was cruising, racking up 16 hits, with Staub leading the charge, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Cline and Zimmerman each crossed the plate three times, while Piper Barnes added a key RBI. Pitcher Alondra Sidock battled through seven innings, allowing five earned runs on 13 hits before Kaitlin Murphy closed it out with a scoreless eighth.
With their first win in hand, the Cougars now shift their focus to face Olney Central College tomorrow, March 6 at 11:00 AM in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
