
Cougars Sweeps Skipjacks on the Road
Frederick Community College Cougars took on Chesapeake College in a Region 20 DII doubleheader on Wednesday, delivering a strong offensive performance to win both games on the road with a hard-fought 10-6 victory in Game 1 and a commanding 10-1 win in Game 2.
The first game saw an explosive effort at the plate from Frederick as the team racked up 13 hits. Despite trailing early, the Cougars found their rhythm in the second inning when Ava Yockelson and Kyleigh Hull drove in key runs to tie the game. In the fourth inning, Frederick plated five runs behind a clutch double from Brianna Dehoff that brought home two. Kaitlin Murphy added an RBI double, while Brooke Renninger and Yockelson also contributed to the scoring. Alondra Sidock was steady on the mound, going the full seven innings while allowing just five earned runs on 12 hits. Frederick's defense held strong, turning a double play and committing no errors to secure the win.
In Game 2, the Cougars put together a dominant performance, delivering timely hits to put the game away early. After allowing a first-inning run, Frederick responded with three of their own in the second, highlighted by an RBI single from Hull and aggressive baserunning that forced errors. The team kept up the pressure in the fourth with a two-run double from Murphy, extending the lead. Frederick's fifth inning tacked on five more runs, including RBI hits from Hull, Dehoff, and Piper Barnes. Hailey Justice was in control from the circle, pitching a complete game while allowing just one run on six hits and striking out four.
With the split, Frederick moves to 7-18 overall and an even 6-6 in Region 20 DII play. The Cougars will look to build on their momentum when they travel to Hagerstown Community College for another doubleheader on Saturday, April 5, with the first pitch set for 12 PM.
