Frederick Community College Interim Director of Athletics Rodney Bennett announced that Donyelle Scurry was named the Head Coach of the Cougar women's volleyball team on June 9, 2023. Scurry comes from Seneca Valley High School (Germantown, MD), where she was the Head Coach since 2021, and brings an extensive volleyball resume filled with more than 15 years of coaching experience. She has been coaching since 2006, when she got her first opportunity to coach at Oscar Smith Middle School in Chesapeake, VA, and took her first head coaching job in 2011 at St. Mary's Ryken High School.
She will bring a wealth of understanding in developing healthy athletes, promoting volleyball knowledge to players of all ages and abilities, and developing strategies to cultivate a winning environment in middle school, high school, and club volleyball.
"I'm excited about her passion for the sport she loves, I'm excited for her passion for coaching, and for her passion for developing young adults into adulthood through sports," Bennett said about FCC's Coach Scurry. He added, "I think she will be tremendous for our department."
The 2022 volleyball team finished 14-8 overall and 8-2 in the MDJUCO and runner-up in the NJCAA DII Region 20 Championship. With a handful of returners, Coach Scurry will be looking to build on the program's success in her first season as Head Coach of the Cougars.

Scurry received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Strayer University.
She resides in Frederick County, Md., with her husband, Cyré Scurry, daughter, Araiah Chapman, and sons Anthony Chapman, Jr. and Andrew Chapman.
