Dave served as coach of the FCC men’s basketball program for 20 years, amassing a record of 347-233. During that time, his
teams made 19 appearances in the Regional XX Tournament, and he was named Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2010. He coached 9
All-Americans and 9 Academic All- Americans. Of his players during this period, 96 out of 116 sophomores continued on to four-year colleges; 54 earned full scholarships, 17 played at the D-3 level, and 25 transferred but opted not to play.
Dave graduated from Edinboro University in 1968, where he was a four-year letterman in basketball and co-captain his senior year. He coached and taught at Poolesville High School (MD) for 13 years, with a coaching record of 129-
139. His team was region champion and a state finalist in 1978. He subsequently coached and taught at Walkersville High School for 23 years, with a record of 224-73. Walkersville won state championships in 1984 and 1986, was a state finalist in 1982 and 1988, and a semi-finalist in 1987 and 1992. Walkersville also won regional championships in 1982, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1992, and was MVAL Champion in 1984, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1992. Dave was named Frederick News Post Coach of the Year in 1982, 1984, and 1986.
He was inducted into the Alvin G. Quinn (Frederick) Hall of Fame in 2003, the Mercer County (PA) Sports Hall of Fame in 2005, the Sharon (PA) High School Hall of Fame in 2015, and the Poolesville (MD) High School Hall of Fame in 2015.
“It is an honor and privilege to be inducted into the Frederick Community College Hall of Fame,” Dave said. “I’m proudest of all of the former players who transferred to a four-year college and became productive members of society. I would like to thank the Frederick Community College Hall of Fame committee for this honor.”
