M.B.A., Frostburg State University, 1992

B.A., Lewis University, 1977

A.A., Frederick Community College, 1975

Assistant Director of Athletics/Recruiting, Hood College

Retired in 2012 after 30 years of service with the U.S. House of Representatives.  Chief of Staff to three members of Congress.

Brent participated in cross country, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, basketball and tennis while attending Frederick Community College.  During that period, he earned MVP awards in cross country and track and field; was Region XX champion in the six-mile run;  Maryland Junior College (JUCO) runner-up in the six-mile run; National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Eastern Regional meet runner up in the six mile run (twice).  He was named to the All-Maryland JUCO cross country team in 1974, and holds FCC records for the one-mile, three-mile, six-mile runs, and the marathon, placing sixth in the first NJCAA marathon in 1974.  He achieved over 20 individual event wins in track and cross country.

Brent earned a partial athletic scholarship to Lewis University, where he lettered in both cross country and track, and he graduated with honors, having been inducted into Delta Epsilon Sigma, the National Scholastic Honor Society.  In November 2014, he was named to the Coaches’ Advisory Committee of U.S.A. Track and Field.

“I arrived at Frederick Community College from Illinois as an under-achieving student, having graduated from high school in the bottom third of my class.  FCC gave me the opportunity to wake up academically while at the same time benefitting from great coaching.  In fact, I was almost set on attending UMBC when I learned that three-time U.S. Olympic Coach Jack Griffin would be working with the FCC cross country and track and field teams.  I expected more resistance to this idea at home than I received.  My father may have been relieved that he did not have to spend an arm and a leg on tuition for an unmotivated student.  In the end, I attended Lewis University on a partial athletic scholarship and graduated with honors.”
