Prior to coming to Frederick Community College in 1983, Sandy worked at both the University of Iowa and the University of Maryland in various positions. While at FCC, Sandy held the following positions: Job Placement Coordinator, 1983-1990; Director of Student Services, 1990-1998; Associate Vice President, Enrollment Services, 1998-2011. During her tenure, she managed programs in career/job placement, adult student services, financial aid, admissions, marketing, and recruitment. She also taught a technical writing class for several years.
Although never an official member of the Athletic Department, Sandy early on became the “unofficial advisor” for the basketball teams, particularly for the women’s program. She worked with Jack Mehl, the women’s coach, to talk with prospective athletes and their parents about expectations and the advantages of coming to FCC. And she served concessions at oh-so-many basketball games! Sandy gradually gravitated to the baseball program. Since that time she’s been the number one fan of the program (even though it is played outside, in sometimes cold weather). She has routinely attended both home and away games, including the spring southern trips.
“I have always valued the importance of sports in the lives of young people, and have seen firsthand how sports enhances and strengthens the academic outcomes of the athletes. Community colleges are the best examples of how sports can change the lives of young people, through gaining success both on the playing field and in the classroom. I wear my FCC sweatshirts with pride!”
