Memorable season ends for baseball at World Series

Enid, Ok-  Catawba Valley CC jumped out to an early lead on Frederick Community College and captured an 11-2 victory on Thursday.  The Cougars conclude the 2015 season with a remarkable record of 50-9! Congratulations to Devin Bell on being named to the NJCAA D2 College World Series All-Tournament Team.

With six runs in the first three innings, Catawba Valley left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

A solo home run by Danny Sullivan, an RBI single by Skyler Strickland, a fielder's choice, and a wild pitch during the second inning fueled Catawba Valley's offense early.

Sullivan racked up three RBIs on two hits for Catawba Valley.

Nick Horning looked sharp on the mound. Horning held Frederick hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Devin Bell led Frederick's offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He homered in the fifth inning.  Bell finishes his career as the all-time home run leader with twenty-one round trippers.

Taylor Purus got the win for Catawba Valley. He allowed two runs over five innings. He struck out six, walked four and surrendered three hits.

Timothy Milligan was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in two innings, walked two and struck out one.  Milligan finishes the season at 4-2 on the hill.

Catawba Valley quickly matched Frederick's strong inning with a four-run inning of its own in the fourth. Catawba Valley scored on a two-run double by Sullivan and a two-run home run by Brandon Ford.
