
Cougars Drop Game 1 in Extras; Costello and Appel Shine In Nighcap
Auburndale, Fl. - The No.7 Frederick Community College baseball team took on a very talented ASA College team on Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader. The Cougars dropped game one 11-7 in extra innings, however, bounced back in game two earning the victory 14-8. FCC is now 6-2 on the season and will return to the diamond on Monday as they take on Seminole State College of Florida. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
Game 1
Extra innings were needed to decide game one for the Cougars. FCC held a slim one-run lead heading into the 7th inning, however, ASA pushed a run across the board to send the game into extras. In the 8th inning, ASA put a four spot on the board to defeat the Cougars. Dylan Gutierrez suffered the loss on the hill for FCC and drops to 0-1.
FCC's left fielder Dalton Haymaker hit a 2-run homer for his first round-tripper of the year. Teammates Seth Holler and Mark Martinez also knocked in two runs each.
Game 2
FCC came out in game two swinging the bats recording 13 hits in the victory. Logan Appel continues to tear it up early in the season. Appel went 3-for-4 including a home run and a double while knocking in two. Designated hitter Zackary Costello also went deep for FCC as he also went 3-for-4 registering three RBI's. Right fielder Blake Lazur chipped in with two hits for the Cougars.
Ryan Capstick earned his first win on the season relieving starter Ryan Franceschina. Capstick pitched four innings giving up just one run while striking out six. Capstick sits at 1-0 on the season.
