Region XX D2 Tourney: Cougars Clip Seahawks In Extras
North East, Md. – 10:00 AM first pitch! 6:00 PM a Cougar Victory! What a day and what a game. It had the feel of two separate games thanks in part to a five hour rain delay. The No. 2 seed FCC Cougars would battle No. 3 seed & host Cecil College in Game 1 of the Region XX D2 Baseball playoffs. The Cougars defeated the Seahawks by the score of 7-6 in eleven innings. With the win the Cougars are 37-18 on the season.
The biggest takeaway from today's game that the Cougars battled all day and flat out competed.
FCC starting pitcher Carson Bach struck out the first two batters of the game but then walked the bases loaded. An error and base hit led to the Seahawks plating two runs in the top of the 1st.
The Cougars would strike with three runs in the bottom of the 2nd fueled by first baseman Ryan Capstick who came up big with two outs and knocked In a pair of teammates as the Cougars took a 3-2 lead. Cecil would tie it up in top of the 4th.
FCC third baseman Dalton Haymaker would untie the game in the bottom of the 3rd by depositing the baseball over the left field fence for a 2-run bomb putting FCC up 5-3. Haymaker knew he got it all as his bat-flip was clutch.
FCC starting Pitcher Carson Bach would toss six innings and was relieved by Colby Rudis. Bach struck out eight and now has 124 punchouts in 77 innings.
Rudis would give up a solo shot to Joseph Zirolli on the first pitch in the top of the seventh. It was the second homer of the game putting the Seahawks ahead 6-5.
After a five hour rain delay play would resume with Jett Manning on second and no outs. Pinch-hitter Zackary Costello delivered in the clutch. Costello tattooed a gap shot for a triple scoring Manning and tying up the game at seven. Colby Rudis was filthy on the mound and turned in a stud performance.
Tip your cap to Rudis for bouncing back after a five hour rain delay and performing on the hill as he picks up the victory and improves to 7-4 on the season.
In the bottom of the eleventh FCC would load the bags with no outs with Zackary Costello up to bat. Costello would crush a line drive right to the third baseman for the first out of the inning. No need to worry as Billy Lennox would deliver for FCC. Lennox battled in his at-bat and would hit a roller to first base to score CJ Mackinson.
Dalton Haymaker led the offense attack with three hits including his third dinger of the season. Lennox would go 2-for-5 in the victory.
FCC will return to the diamond on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM and will play the winner of CCBC Catonsville vs. CCBC Essex.
