Baseball explodes for 18 runs in victory over Cardinals
CATONSVILLE, Md. – The Frederick Community College baseball team hit the road for a key Region XX D2 matchup against CCBC Catonsville on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars came out swinging their bats before they even got off the bus as they cracked 17 hits in the win, resulting in 18 runs on the scoreboard. With the victory, FCC improves to 13-10 overall on the year.
FCC starting pitcher Nick Pantos had plenty of support from his teammates today. Pantos tossed a complete game and earned his fifth victory of the season. He gave up just six hits on the day and struck out five. He improves to 5-1 on the year and now has 44 punchouts in 35.1 innings of work on the hill.
Logan Appel (3-for-5), Jared Pine (3-for-5), Mark Minicozzi (3-for-4), and Eric Naylor (3-for-5) recorded three hits each. Appel crushed a homer on the day and smacked a double. He knocked in three runs and scored twice. Pine continues to set the tone at the top of the order for the Cougar offense. He scored three runs and knocked in a pair. The speedy leadoff hitter has an on base percentage of .432 and is hitting .379 in his freshman season. Naylor scorched a pair of doubles and knocked in a game-high five runs. Minicozzi smacked two doubles and crossed home plate four times in the victory. Brady Harju joined the hit parade and chipped in with a pair of singles.
