Baseball comes from behind to win game one over Seahawks
NORTH EAST, Md. – The (RV) Frederick Community College baseball team traveled to Cecil College on Tuesday afternoon for a Region XX D2 doubleheader against the Seahawks. This past weekend, FCC secured the No. 1 seed of the upcoming Region XX D2 postseason tournament. The Seahawks are currently sitting in second place. The Cougars would take game one by the score of 10-3. FCC improves to 29-13 (15-4 MD JUCO) and extends their winning streak to eight games.
The Seahawks of Cecil College wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the first frame. FCC starting pitcher Antonio Bianchini gave up a 3-run homer to Andrew Schutt in the first inning. FCC would plate their first run of the contest in the top of the second as Brandon Austin drew a bases loaded walk to score Brady Harju.
The Cougars would respond in the top of the third as Jared Pine led the inning off with a walk. Eric Naylor would connect on his eighth homer of the season tying the game up at three.
FCC would take the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Thomas Gonzalez led the inning off with a single and would score on a single off the bat of Brandon Austin. The rally would continue as Mark Minicozzi would single to knock in Austin, increasing the lead to 5-3.
The Cougars would plate two more runs in the top of the fifth to increase the lead by four runs. Logan Appel led the inning off with a walk. Mitch Long would come to the plate to deliver his fifth triple of the year, scoring Appel. Long would then score on a miscue by the shortstop, making the score, 7-3.
Never hurts to add a couple of insurance runs late in the game. In the top of the seventh, Thomas Gonzalez doubled to left field, scoring Harju. Brandon Austin would join the hit parade by hitting a single scoring two runs to push the lead to 10-3. Austin would finish the contest with 3 RBIs.
Bianchini would go five innings and pick up the win for FCC. AB improves to 4-2 on the season. He bounced back nicely from the first inning, tossing four scoreless innings. He gave up three earned runs and struck out six batters in the outing. He was relieved by Teagan Staver who tossed two innings to secure the victory. Staver gave up just one hit and struck out two batters.
FCC slugged out 11 hits in the win. Eight different hitters for FCC contributed with a knock. Minicozzi, Gonzalez, and Austin led FCC with a pair of hits.
