Cougars Stay Alive In Region XX D2 Baseball Tourney With Victory Over Cardinals
CATONSVILLE, Md. – The No. 20 FCC Cougars returned to the diamond on Saturday afternoon to square off against the Cardinals from CCBC Catonsville. The loser of this game would be eliminated from the Region XX D2 Tournament. The Cougars would clip the Cardinals by the score of 9-6 to live to see another game in the tournament. FCC is 35-16 overall.
The Cardinals would jump on the scoreboard in the first frame by scoring two runs off of FCC starting pitcher James Beasley. JB would toss 4 innings striking out six batters in the no-decision. He gave up five earned runs. He was relieved by Antonio Bianchini (5-2) who picked up the victory on the hill. He battled on the mound and picked up his fifth win of the season. He pitched five innings and fanned four batters.
The FCC offense was as hot as the temperature this afternoon. The Cougars pounded out 13 hits in the win. FCC leadoff hitter Hayden Kissel had himself quite a day at the dish. He went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Logan Appel, Brady Harju, and Brandon Austin each went deep for FCC. Mitch Long, Thomas Gonzalez, and Dillon Cooperrider each had two hits. Long, Appel, and Harju each knocked in two runs. Credit Mitch Long for his seventh triple of the year.
The Cougars will resume play on Sunday at 11:00 A.M. as their contest against Garrett College was suspended due to inclement weather. FCC currently leads the Lakers by the score of 9-7 in the top of the 7th. There are two outs in the inning with no runners on base. The loser of the game between FCC (1-1) and GC (1-1) will be eliminated from the tournament. The winner will continue on in the double elimination tournament facing CCBC Essex (2-0).
