FCC baseball sweeps opening day against Surry CC
DOBSON, NC – A solid start for the FCC baseball team as they took two on Saturday afternoon vs. Surry CC. The Cougars sit at 2-0 on the young season.
Game One
FCC 6 Surry CC 3
Quite a nailbiter to start the season off for the Cougars. In the top of the sixth inning, FCC tied things up at three on a double off the bat of Jacob Berry, scoring Connor Hanafin.
With the game knotted up 3-3 in the top of the seventh Priamo Lozada smacked a sacrifice fly that knocked in the go-ahead run for the Cougars. FCC would tack on two more insurance runs to secure the win.
Nick Karlinchak (1-0) was the winning pitcher for FCC. He allowed just one hit and no runs over three innings of work, striking out three.
AJ Cieslinski started the game for the Cougars. He went four innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out four.
The Cougars racked up nine hits in the win. Justin Acal went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Nicco German had a pair of hits, while teammate Priamo Lozada knocked in three runs.
Game Two
FCC 4 Surry CC 1
Jacob Wetzel (1-0) led the Cougars to victory on the hill. The southpaw tossed four innings, allowing no runs on just one hit, whiling fanning six. Max Proctor threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Proctor recorded the last nine outs of the game to earn his first save of the season.
The Cougars collected nine hits in the win. Wetzel got it done on the hill and at the plate. He tallied two hits, including a triple. Teammate Nicco German registered two hits as well, including a two-bagger.
ON DECK
The two teams will square off again on Sunday (2/23) afternoon for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon in Dobson, NC.
