FCC Baseball Ranked Among The Elite

Recap & Photo: Gary Demski, Asst. Dir. of Athletics & Communications.

FREDERICK, MD – The FCC men's baseball team couldn't ask for a better start to the 2022 season. The Cougars went 8-1 overall on their annual spring trip to Florida. Just yesterday, the NJCAA released their weekly National Rankings, and the Cougars climbed up in the polls and now sit at #9 in the Top 20.

The Cougars are getting it done at the plate and on the mound. On the spring trip, eight different pitchers earned victories as the Cougars straight up dominated on the hill. The 1-2 punch of Ezekiel Gongola and Daniel Leo was dealing on the bump. The duo combined for 35 punchouts in 21.2 innings of work. The pitching staff has a stellar 3.16 ERA on the season.

At the plate, the Cougars are crushing the cover off the ball and that is a great sign early in the season. The top of the order for Head Coach Rodney Bennett has been getting it done. Justin Acal, Brendan Long, Nicco German, Aidan Masters, and Brodey Neveker are leading the way for the FCC offense. Acal and Long are hitting .500 so far on the year. Long, German, and David Antone each have two homers on the year.

MILES-TONE! Wyatt hits for the cycle

Worth mentioning as well as a highlight from the trip was the game Wyatt Miles had for the Cougars. Miles had himself quite a day at the dish, going 4-for-5 in the 14-4 lopsided win over Webber International University. He doubled in the third, singled in the fifth, homered in the sixth, and tripled in the seventh. Miles recorded six RBIs on a historical day! That is a heck of a day at the dish!

From The Coach – Rodney Bennett (20th Season, 685-280)

"Overall we were very pleased with our trip. We got to learn a lot about ourselves as individuals and as a team. We hope to continue this for the rest of our season. The trip is beneficial in so many ways for our student-athletes."

ON DECK

#9 FCC will return to the diamond on Friday as they open up Region 20 divisional play as they host the Riverhawks from Anne Arundel CC. The first pitch of the DH is set for noon.
