
Cougars Take Sting Out Of Hornets In Doubleheader Sweep
WINCHESTER, VA - The No. 7 Frederick Community College baseball team traveled to Shenandoah University JV on Friday afternoon for a picture-perfect day for a doubleheader. The Cougars took game one by the score of 5-4 behind a strong pitching performance from starter Riley Grant. In the nightcap, the Cougars exploded for eight runs in the third inning to earn the 14-4 victory! FCC extends its winning streak to eight games.
GAME 1
Tip of the cap to FCC starting pitcher Riley Grant. He turned another solid outing going four innings to pick up his second win on the season. The hard-throwing righty gave up just one hit while fanning two batters. Aiden Fernandez came out of the bullpen and turned in a solid performance. Fernandez picked up his first intercollegiate save as he shut the door on the Hornets for the final three innings of the game. The Hornets were threatening in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cougars pulled out the one-run victory.
Josh Wilson led the FCC offense with a pair of hits, including a double. In the top of the seventh, Aidan Masters and Justin Acal were clutch as both recorded back-to-back RBI singles that ended up being crucial.
GAME 2
The Cougars exploded in the third inning as they lit up the scoreboard for eight runs on six hits and four miscues by the Hornets. In the fourth inning, Nicco German hit a 2-run bomb to pad the lead for FCC.
Aidan Masters and German each had three hits in the win. German knocked in a game-high four RBIs as the Cougars pounded out 13 hits. Justin Acal chipped in with a pair of hits while teammates David Antone and Brodey Neveker each doubled.
Aidan Baadte started on the rubber in game two and picked up his first intercollegiate win on the hill. The lefty tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs. AJ sits at 1-1 on the year.
